Your Bushcraft Questions, Answered
Hey folks! We get asked lots of questions about our Bushcraft activity, so to make things super easy for you, we’ve put this super handy video together. Alternatively, you can read the answers to our most frequently asked questions below.
What are the minimum and maximum age requirements?
We require participants to be at least 8 years old to take part in bushcraft with us. We don’t have a maximum age, just as long as the person is healthy enough to participate. Adults will also be required to take part with any under 18’s.
What exactly is bushcraft?
Bushcraft is the usage and practice of skills, as well as acquiring and developing knowledge and understanding in order to survive and thrive in the natural environment.
Do you provide all the equipment/what do I need to wear?
We provide all equipment needed for your Bushcraft activity. We just ask that you’re dressed for the weather! So when it’s hot we recommend wearing shorts, a t-shirt and a hat to protect you from the sun. A bottle of water and some sunscreen is also advised. For when it’s cold, you’re going to want to layer up, with a waterproof jacket, trousers, hat and gloves to keep yourself warm on the water.
What is included in a Bushcraft session?
Our bushcraft sessions are packed full of interesting bushcraft topics. Some examples of these include fire lighting, introducing fire safety and how to use the environment around us sustainably and safely. Shelter building, where we learn how to identify where you can build shelters safely, and which materials you can use to do so. Our bushcraft sessions cover basic survival skills, so more advanced bushcraft practices such as wood whittling and axe throwing aren’t something that we currently cover.
Will I be able to cook my dinner over the fire?
Depending on your session, we can look to cook your lunch on the fire, however this is normally reserved for those joining us for a full day of bushcraft. This is because it can take some time to prepare and cook your meal and a half-day won’t allow you enough time. You can let us know of any dietary requirements upon booking. If you have booked a half-day we recommend bringing a packed lunch so you can still enjoy the beautiful surroundings around the fire.
Are your bushcraft sessions guided?
All of our bushcraft sessions are led by one of our in-house bushcraft experts who will spend time with you learning and honing your newfound bushcraft skills during your time with us.
Do you have toilets and parking?
We do have toilets and free parking however this is limited so we recommend car sharing where possible.
Can I bring my dog to your bushcraft sessions?
You can bring your pup along! We do require them to be on a lead for the duration of the session for health and safety reasons.
How do I book bushcraft with you?
To book a bushcraft session with us we generally require you to call us, as sessions are generally a little more bespoke. However if you’re a family or couple, you can book our Woodland Adventure Days, where you’ll take part in some bushcraft alongside a host of other woodland activities.
What happens if the weather is bad and I want to cancel?
Our activities go ahead in almost all weathers and we’re experts at maximising the fun, even in the rain! If we are made aware that you wish to cancel your booking within 48 hours of your activity you will lose your payment and we will be unable to rebook you. If we are given 7-days notice, we can offer a full refund or credit. Between those times, 50% credit will be offered. Upon booking, you can opt to pay our optional Poor Weather Insurance. This enables you to cancel your activity up until 5pm the day before and you’ll be eligible to move dates or receive a full refund. Our ‘Poor Weather Insurance’ fee is £2.50 per person. This is only available at the time of the booking and not applicable to same day bookings. We always cancel sessions and rebook or refund customers for no charge if we deem weather conditions to be unsafe.
